Finding the correct way to rest and reset is crucial to achieve effective results. Dr. Sayndra Dalton-Smith outlined seven types of rest that we need for different occasions. Keep reading to know exactly which type of rest you need next time you’re feeling tired!

1.Physical Rest

Physical rest helps release tension and relaxes the body. Exhaustion, fatigue or aching in your body are signs you need physical rest. Common remedies include passive remedies, such as sleeping or taking a nap, as well as active remedies, such as practicing yoga. It’s important to listen to your body and give it the rest it deserves.

2.Mental Rest

Our minds can sometimes remain active, even when our bodies are relaxed. If you are experiencing loss of concentration and racing thoughts, it’s time for a mental break. Clearing your mind is key to giving yourself a mental reset. Alleviate yourself by regularly practicing mindfulness, and take short breaks while working to preserve a healthy mindset.

3.Sensory Rest

Noise pollution, bright screens and being constantly bombarded with information can exhaust our senses. You’d notice feeling overwhelmed and responsible for all that’s happening around you. Habitually turn off social media apps to be present. Alone time would also be helpful, especially in an area where you can connect with nature and forget about the busy life for a little while.

4.Creative Rest

Creative rest helps when we’re low on creative juice. Feeling uninspired can be very frustrating and it’s a sign to get creative rest. Discover new avenues of inspiration – be it through people, books, or even nature. Give yourself a fresh perspective by modifying your workspace; simple adjustments in your surrounding environment can reawaken your creativity.

5.Emotional Rest

Strong emotions, positive or negative, can be exhausting. Emotional rest is great for reconnecting with ourselves when we’re feeling disconnected and overwhelmed. Journaling can help you express your emotions and reflect on them. Being genuine and true to who you are helps in decision-making, reducing the need for emotional rest in the long-run.

6.Social Rest

From people pleasing and societal pressure, socializing can sometimes be draining. Taking a break from challenging interactions is what is referred to as social rest. Drawing boundaries and effectively communicating with others is a great start. Reflect on your relationships and make sure you’re surrounded by positive, supportive individuals.

7.Spiritual Rest

Helpful remedies would include meditation, prayer and engaging in shadow work. These practices can help you grasp a better understanding of who you are and help you feel more at peace altogether.
